ABOUT

WOVEN TALON

From ‘Stories through Sound’ to ‘Dreamlines’, ‘Kahu’, and now ‘Hajiko’.

Woven Talon continues to transform their signature cinematic world sound, weaving story and diversity throughout different acoustic arrangements and ensembles. Coming June 21, 2022 on Summer Solstice, “Hajiko” is Woven Talon’s third official release, recorded in Byron Bay, Australia, at a studio in the jungle near the ocean shores. Collaborating with Australian artists Djulz Chambers on percussion, Cye Wood on violin (Cave in the Sky), Brandon Cassidy on “wooden machines” (Black Rainbow), and Christian Pyle on analog electronics, Tumason weave layers of soulful rhythmic vocals, world percussion, hypnotic strings and colorful experimental textures, continuing a multi-album story of deep journey soundscapes. The “Hajiko” album cover features a painting by Maori artist Gene Kelly King, and the music video for the song “Guri” was created in collaboration with German photographer Katharina Jung.

Their 2020 release, “Kahu”, was an eclectic orchestra entwining many styles from World Cinematic Landscapes and Rock. Consider it a journey of rediscovering your wings after a long time without them. Transformational from beginning to end, the “Kahu” album features bassist Drew Roulette (Dredg), Maggie Thornton ( Sky Civilian ), Noah Wilson, Karina Wilson, Gregory Gutin, Hountor Gent, Casey Anderson, Rick Bastine, and Ben Tempchin (Grove of Baal). The album was recorded between Aotearoa and Santa Fe, New Mexico at Sherpa Studios & Ebony Shore Studios with Engineers Andrew Tumason, Jackson Mathey, Kabby, & Michael Stearns. More of Tumason’s compositions appear as Evarusnik, a collaboration with Santa Fe Vocalist Miranda Scott.

Talon’s debut release, “Dreamlines,” was a solo album recorded in Aotearoa, a swirling, percussive collection of raw, earthy and heartfelt medicine songs. A highlight of this release was performing with a seven-piece ensemble at Voices of Sacred Earth Gathering in Aotearoa with the community that inspired these songs, ecstatic with dance.
